Spec List

Here is what I am looking at putting together... though there are some serious problems in the way...

1. The internet goes to a crawl here due to the fact that we share the internet line with students that leave it on all day downloading porn and what not... They really need to police the system better or buy a T1+
2. I havent decided if I want to make a mATX or a regular tower PC. Im leaning towards the mATX just because it would be different and more portable but the case and PSU runs me about 500 bucks.

Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) 2.66 Ghz
nVidia GeForce 7950 GX2 1024 MB
2 gigs of Corsair RAM
400GB HD (Possibly setting two HDs in RAID 0)

Parts are substantially cheaper here in Korea. The 2.66 costs $520 in the states, its $320 in Korea.

So I might just end up buying projector and a WII and calling it a day.

Music Videos

Some pretty cool news. My friend got this email:
"I am very impressed with your music video using "This is Your Life" as the music. I am speaking to a Christian campus group at the University of Evansville in a couple of weeks and would like to use your video. The topic of the talk is about living a life of purpose. I had planned on using the song but after seeing your video, it really amplifies the message of the song. Would you grant me permission to show your video?"

See the video here:

My friends and I made this video in 3 days with zero budget during a break at school.

On a side note... 1 week off in 2 days!!!

ARGH!

Well... I cant sleep at night, my roommate snores like its a chainsaw in the woods so I have requested my own room. The only kicker is that I have to pay double what I was paying to share a room... Kind of jacked up since I only need another room so I can actually function. I suppose thats life though.

Volleyball

I am the assistant coach for the HS boys volleball team, sure I haven't played volleyball in years so I am in charge of getting these guys in shape. Oh what fun it is to force other people to do hard excercise, MUAHAHAHHA. And I get to yell all I want. We had 19 guys show up and none of them have played volleyball before but we have some good players. We will only select 12 for games but allow everyone to come out to practice, if people start slipping in their grades or in practice then they get bumped from the starting lineup and we move someone into their spot, this should keep the guys working hard in school and on the court.

My First Period Class

Something one of my students wrote me, really makes your day.

Picture of my first period class. The guy in the front with the black shirt is "sleepy," he falls asleep in every class all the time.

School in Session!

School has finally started.

I just wanted to apologize to everyone that has sent me an email recently and has not gotten a reply. Things have been really busy with getting lesson plans done and starting school so I have not been on top of my emailing.

Julie - the dress picture is so cute. I am glad you like it!

DJ - My skype name is Heebs6 but I am never on it.

Mom, Dad - I figured out how to present the material after reading some teaching websites, thanks for the encouragement and support.

Ann - ESL is really hard, I have a lot more respect for what you do and how hard you work. I put in 14.5 hours yesterday!

Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy - Doing my best to take care of Laura. She's doing great as a teacher! Was great to talk to you both and Alex and Roxie.

First day of school was rough. I had no idea what I was doing my first period class so they were out of it when I started to lecture because we had so much extra time after I went through the syllabus. Have one trouble kid, he sleeps through class. I made him stand the whole class period and then do pushups during the study time. He promised not to fall asleep in class tomorrow. Claims he has insomnia and cant sleep at night, I want to feel sorry for him but my IRON FIST must previal! I am going to find out if he really does have a sleeping problem and figure out how to get him to learn the material and not die from exhaustion.

I have a free period after the first class so thats 2.5 hours for planning and lunch. My third period class are one "level" higher in English ability and them seem like a good bunch, a couple sleepers though that I might have do pushups today if they get sleepy. I did not lecture yesterday but I got a solid chunk of material to get through today.

Fourth period is a riot, I got several boys that speak a little english but are so animated and funny that I dont mind them being a little rowdy. They were really responsive and engaged so I hope that energy carries through the semester. They kept asking me to take the class to the gym to play basketball, maybe I can pawn off a lesson about the body and we can go study the body in motion... and play basketball hehe. I got a solid lecture today so I hope we can get through it, I know that I need to explain a lot of things over but my initial discouragement about Intensive English Program (IEP) students is gone. My first period class proved that they can learn the material but I still feel that biology should be offered at a higher level to the students as their English proficiency improves.

A big group of us are hoping to spend Saturday night and Sunday in Seoul this weekend. I have a couple friends I would like to meet up with and HOPEFULLY pick up a cell phone. I also need to find a place to get my pants shortened... my legs are shorter than I thought!

So far so good, I really like my kids, some of them I need to find a way to engage them, maybe I will have to do a seating chart. Overall things are going well. Hope everything is well with all of you.

A little motto I put forward to my kids:
You can do anything you wish to do, you have anything you wish to have, you can be anything you wish to be. Robert Collier.

Tuesday

We had our second day of In Service training, just talking about what makes a good teacher and stuff like that. I still do not know what courses I will be specifically teaching, hopefully tomorrow is when I will find out.

It's HOT. I think I drank 2 gallons of water yesterday. I cannot wait for it to cool down.

I might be coaching some sport teams, soccer, basketball and maybe volleyball. I think I will be the assistant which means I will probably be in charge of warmups and stuff like that, oh I will make them run... :D

Food is good, Kimchi and rice and fish, I think Ill loose a lot of weight here.

My roommate came in, he's a neat guy from Arizona.

I still cant get over how beautiful this country is, tomorrow I will take some pics of the scenery around our apartment and the campus.

I found some free weights so I have been lifting a bit, gonna get S T R O N G RAR.

Thats about it. Email me people, email me, I am feeling neglected.

Sunday

We went to Seoul on Sunday to attend Chuch. The church is called Onnuri English Ministry, it's a pretty large Church and contemporary. The praise music they sung was very much like what we did in ACF.

Pat: I was passing the offering bag to the person behind me and a girl two rows back reached up for it and said "Jon?" I randomly bumped into Senna. Small world, gonna try to have lunch with her next Sunday.

After Church a few of us ran around Seoul, went to Dongdaemoon for some shopping and food. We didnt have much time so we had to leave pretty quickly. We stopped at Costco on the way home, talk about a crazy place. It's down in Seoul so everyone and their mother was shopping there. 35 bucks for membership and you get wholesale prices, talk about a match made in heaven for a city of 14 million people. Hopefully next time we can go to the one in Taejang, apparently it is a less crowded.

Our training starts today, little nervous to start teaching but I think this will end the slow pace that things have been going at. I am getting a little better with the jet lag. I wake up around 4am everyday though.

Till next time.

Pictures

Here is all my stuff. No change in the way I organize is there?

This is the view from the door. I have to rearrange the furniture to get more space out of the room. I would like to thank William and Mary for providing me with my furniture arrangement degree. It's pretty basic, two twin beds, two small desks, a double closet/dresser thing, TV, and mini fridge.

Thats the bathroom... The shower head is connected to the sink and is just there on the right side. I get to watch my fat self while I shower in the mirror, HOT!

KOREA!

Made it to Korea. Will attempt to take pictures tomorrow. Contact information to follow. Out.
